The World Drug Report (WDR) 2012 was launched by ROMENA on 2 July 2012 in a press conference at the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Cairo. The report was presented by Mr. Faisal Hegazy, Programme Officer at UNODC Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa, and Mr. Amr Othman, Director of the Fund for the Prevention and Treatment of Addiction, who gave insight into the importance of the report as a tool in the face of drug issues in the international community and within the region. It is clear that the Arab Spring has left many more susceptible to the dangers of drugs and drug trafficking in the region, particularly given the decreased security situation.
